Between 1990 and 2000, the population nearly doubled, increasing from 58,000 to over 113,000 people. A rural, small-city charm is integral to Henry’s future.
The county’s growth is due to its close proximity to Hartsfield International Airport, with the majority of residential relocation coming from airport employees.
Twenty miles of Interstate 75, one of the nation’s most heavily traveled highways, traverses Henry with seven interchanges; one out of every five cars in America goes through Henry County on I-75 each year, creating a commercial quarter through the county. Most industrial-commercial development occurs along this route.
Henry has low unemployment (2.2 percent). Several major companies, like Nestle, Ford Motor, Pep Boys, Power Equipment, Toppan Interamerica and Snapper, have taken advantage of the county’s accessibility by establishing distribution centers.
The school system keeps pace with the county’s overall growth; two new middle schools, one new high school and one new elementary schools opened for the 2001-2002 school year. Unity Grove Elementary is scheduled to open in 2002, and Luella High will open in 2003.
Affordability and value for the dollar are especially appealing to prospective homeowners. New subdivisions are continuously being built. Home prices range from the $60s to the luxuriously priced.
